As it came out in 2016, staggered releases over three years, it’s like binge-watching Lost or Game of Thrones without fear of having to wait for the next instalment. Aren’t they all? Cursor? Cue some deep-rooted conspiracies, supernatural elements and some terrible tragedies. Why? The storytelling in this game from Portable Moose is fantastic. By the time I finished episode one, I immediately purchased the season pass. The perspectives were out, opening one door after the next and not having much to do had me mildly doubt the reviews. You move Sal, the protagonist, left and right through corridor after corridor, clicking anything that crosses his path. It wasn’t a conventional point and click either. While I knew that the game I had just purchased was Sally Face episode one, I wasn’t expecting it to have such a brief playtime.
Well, first impressions weren’t all that great. Steam currently rates it as overwhelmingly positive, and aside from a few gobby Twitter types, Steam reviewers tend to have my mindset in seeing the good in a game, often ranking higher than the critics. Five years ago isn’t that long, and Sally Face is as relevant as it can be, and I implore you to seek it out. That should explain why I’m reviewing a game from 2016, but there are no rules here – I’ll review Double Dragon if I please. On the upside, this has given me a bit more time to buy up a host of games on my wishlist Sally Face being one of them. In short, I’ve attempted to cover as many as possible at the sacrifice of covering many new titles or news pieces. And each of them you are going to remember long after you finish the game thanks to witty dialogues where the authors were able to express their whole uniqueness. Each of them has their own traits and background. The rest of the characters in Sally Face are just as fascinating and lifelike. Memorable characters, amazing adventures, gripping gameplay! That only makes the character of Sally more mysterious and intriguing, and you want to play more hoping that other interesting nuances will be revealed soon. Unfortunately, you won’t discover just everything there is to know about him and will have to do with vague hints and memories. As you will find out, Sally’s life wasn’t really cloudless and there is a dreadful drama behind his shoulders.
While telling his story, the game makers skillfully use the time trick – moments of the present are subtly intertwined with scenes from the past, and all of that makes everything happening on the screen very believable. You are going to play as a strange kid named Sally whose face is always covered by a white mask.
But what if these ghosts are actually real? In Sally Face, you are going to meet one of them and help the spirit that got stuck in this world get justice for being killed here long ago! More than just a horror quest! Because children love all sorts of mysteries and scary stories, there is nothing better for them than getting to sneak around such a house, filled with shadows of age-old murders and presumably ghosts. When we were kids, each of us probably felt that unexplainable attraction to old houses.
